At Parklands Primary School, we endeavour to teach our children to celebrate and welcome differences in our world. We believe that it is important that they have a clear appreciation and understanding of different languages, countries and cultures. The language taught in Key Stage 2 is Spanish, however we strive to provide children with opportunities to experience a range of other languages too throughout their time in school.
Our core planning is based upon the Language Angels scheme of work that covers all areas of the Programme of Study within England. Spanish is taught weekly by our specialist teacher. It is our intent is to provide our children with high-quality education in Modern Foreign Languages (MFL), spark their curiosity in learning languages in a way that is enjoyable and stimulating, and open the door to new possibilities & opportunities through MFL.
All pupils will be expected to achieve their full potential by encouraging high expectations and excellent standards in their foreign language learning – the ultimate aim being that pupils will feel willing and able to continue studying languages beyond key stage 2.
The four key language learning skills; listening, speaking, reading and writing are covered consistently and all necessary grammar is covered in an age-appropriate way across the primary phase. This will enable pupils to use and apply their learning in a variety of contexts, laying down solid foundations for future language learning and also helping the children improve overall attainment in other subject areas.
We have carefully selected interesting and engaging topics to cover in Spanish, ensuring all children are engaged and enjoying their language learning lessons. We also celebrate Spanish speaking countries during Spanish week, including having flamenco dance workshops and tasty new food to try!
